Hartlepool Boxing Day Dip · 26 December 2017
Steven Gate was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in February 2017. He is a father of two and Grandfather of 6 who has always led an active life until this shock diagnosis.
Myeloma is a type of blood cancer that effects the production of blood and damages bones causing pain for those who suffer this illness. After months of back pain it was discovered that Steven has 2 collapsed vertebrae in his spine and lesions/fractures throughout all his major bones in his body (thankfully his fingers and toes are fine so he can still play the piano and paint with his feet should he so wish 😆).
Myeloma is not a curable illness but treatment can improve quality of life by reducing symptoms. As well as Chemotheraphy Steven has recently undergone a Stem Cell Transplant to stabilise the disease.
Inspired by his bravery two of his grandchildren (Jay and Rebekah) and his Son-in-law (Mark) are participating in Hartlepools Boxing Day Dip and would like to donate any sponsor money raised to Myeloma UK to help fund research into treatments and hopefully one day a cure for this life changing illness.
If you can spare anything at all for our cause please donate what you can and sponsor us as we brave the cold North Sea on Boxing Day 2017.
