Story
After turning 40 last year and pledging to 'give a little back' each year, my charity fundraiser this year is for Autism Aware UK, a newly formed charity set up by two inspirational friends of ours Kim & Jon Southall. You can read all about the great work the charity does on the right of this page.
Thanks to the generosity of family, friends, work colleagues and my employers, last year I was able to raise much-needed funds for Lupus UK by making it round the Potters Arf’ marathon. Having now forgot about the physical challenge of the half marathon I have decided to ‘up the ante’ and sign up to for Born Survivor this year.
[Here is the marketing blurb] Born Survivor is a physical 10K endurance challenge specially designed by British Royal Marines Commandos to offer a unique physical challenge testing fitness, determination and courage to the limit. The event will take place on Saturday 5 April, in Cumbria. The course layout and obstacles are based on experience of Commando, Para and Special Forces assault courses from around the globe. We do not intend this to be easy. The course route and terrain we choose will be tough and unforgiving. The obstacles we build are designed to test you both physically and mentally. Expect crawling, climbing, swinging, sliding, hills, water, mud, sweat and fear. http://www.born-survivor.com.
This is going to be tough, the last time I was in uniform I was a sixer in the cubs and most of the crawling I have done in recent years has been in search of my golf balls, so I would be really grateful if I could call on your generosity and words of encouragement again this year. Steve
