Story
On Friday 29 June, I will cycle the Leeds & Liverpool canal to raise vital funds for Leeds Children's Charity
The Leeds & Liverpool canal is the longest man-made waterway in the UK. From the heart Liverpool there are 127 miles and 92 locks to negotiate before arriving in the centre of Leeds. The route includes the following; The recently-opened link that completes the canal’s 200 year history, passing Aintree’s Canal Turn, Orwell’s Wigan pier, the impressive Burnley embankment, crossing the Pennines, the gloom of Foulridge tunnel (requiring a detour for the cyclist), the peace of the Yorkshire Dales, the historic market town of Skipton and the famous five-rise locks at Bingley.
I aim to complete the off-road cycle along the canal’s route in three days.
For those who know me I have the body of a serious sportsman. Unfortunately it is the body of a darts player rather than a cyclist!!!
