- Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls,Many of you will know but for those who don't, In June 2012 I lost my mum Mary Carter to Lung Cancer. Not only was she my mum but she was also my best friend. She was an amazing woman and a huge influence in mine and my friends lives. She was a keen sportsperson who loved to be active and loved those around her to be active too. Following her passing and in her memory some close friends and I got together and formed a cycling group, aptly named 'Mary's Boys'. After months of training and several fundraising events we set off in May 2013 and completed a 400 mile charity bike ride from London England to Brussels Belgium. Thanks to the kind generosity of our family, friends and work colleagues we raised £17000 for The Cancer Treatment and Research Trust based at Mount Vernon hospital, Middlesex.Due to team family additions and wedding commitments 'Mary's Boys' are hoping to again embrace the Lycra and get back on the saddle in 2016 for another epic journey. In the meantime can I draw your attention to my good friend Steven Hakner. Steve contacted me a couple of months ago after he had been issued a place in the 2015 London Marathon and asked if Team MB would be happy for him to represent us and raise money for the CTRT. The decision was made there and then. I was truly overwhelmed and exceptionally honoured that Steven had thought of Team MB. Knowing of all the charities he could have chosen and how professional Steven is, I am humbled that a friend could chose to represent my Mum and support CTRT.So it brings me to the end of my appeal, whether it's a £1 or £100, I know Steve, Team MB and I can't thank you enough for even taking the time to read our plea. The support and messages help no end in motivating you across that finish line and ultimately helps us towards the fight against one of life's biggest killers, Cancer. We've done it before, let's do it again!Thank You.
