Watford General Hospital to Kings College Hospital

26 mile walk - Watford General Hospital to Kings College Hospital · 14 August 2019
To commemorate my ongoing recovery from Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and to mark my 1 year anniversary, I am doing a little walk!
I will be walking 26 miles from Watford General Hospital to Kings College Hospital, London. The same journey I took that journey in an ambulance transferring from Watford to Kings ITU to undergo my treatment of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TENS - the more severe form of SJS)
The SJS Awareness UK charity organisation provides information and support to those affected by Stevens Johnson Syndrome.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a rare but life threatening disorder that affects the skin, mucous membrane and eyes.
The mucous membrane is the soft layer of tissue that lines the digestive system and eyeballs.
SJS is usually caused by an unpredictable adverse reaction to certain medications. It can also sometimes be caused by an infection (which is what happened in my case).
The syndrome often begins with flu-like symptoms, followed by a red or purple rash that spreads and forms blisters. The affected skin eventually dies and peels off.
