Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

Whizz Kidz provides young wheelchair users with the equipment and skills they need to live life as independently as possible, at home, at school, at work and beyond.

Story

On the afternoon of 22nd April 2012, I hope I will have completed my first ever marathon.

If I’m honest, I’m really nervous...! 26.2 miles will be run, over 2600 calories will be burnt, and between 40-50,000 strides will be… err… strided (?!?) to get me round the course.

You are also able to text me donations - just text DRIV69 and an amount (£1, £2, £5, or £10) to 70070. e.g "DRIV69 £10" to 70070 - £10 will be added to you next phone bill (very easy and very hi-tech!)

Now the important bit; I’m running for charity. The charity is called Whizz-Kidz, and is a really good cause. Whizz-Kidz is all about giving disabled children the chance to lead a more independent life. They are virtually 100% reliant on voluntary funds raised through events, trusts, companies and individuals.

Facts: The average recreational runner’s training program for a marathon is 22 weeks, and during that time they will run an average of 40 miles per week totalling 880 miles before toeing the line on race day. That is roughly the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats, which is the entire length of the island of Britain from southwest to northeast. The record for running that route is nine days…!! I will however be aiming for an ambitious 4 hours…!!

So dig deep, and help me get through this stupid run I’ve booked myself in to do.
