Story

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page - I really appreciate it.

So I have decided to run the Westminster British 10K on Sunday 9th July to raise money for the brilliant tiata fahodzi

tiata fahodzi is Britain's leading African theatre company, staging bold, beautiful and accessible stories of contemporary Britain, rooted in the African diasporic experience but reflecting all our lives. It is a company to which I feel a very personal connection: for one thing, I am proud to currently serve on the company's board of trustees. But my relationship with tf goes deeper, for while he does not know this, it was the kindness of tf's founding director Femi Elufowoju Jr in agreeing to meet me and the generosity and encouragement of his Medea cast that spurred me to pursue a life in theatre. So it's kind of tiata fahodzi's fault that I now work in the art form I love.

I say love but there's a few things I hate about theatre too. There is its inadequate representation, onstage but more particularly off, of anyone who is not white, middle class and male. I am all three but that didn't stop tiata fahodzi's founders from welcoming me: for them, as for tiata fahodzi today, theatre is for everyone.

Which is why I am running my first 10K in a decade. tiata fahodzi has just launched its Artistic Director Leadership programme, bringing together Freedom Studios, Talawa and 20 Stories High (supported by Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme and Independent Theatre Council) to offer training and pathways for outstanding artists of colour to become future theatre leaders. With our support, they will change the face of theatre - for the better and for all of us.

My target is a perhaps over-ambitious sub 50 mins (whoops!) so I'm going to need all the encouragement I can get. Please join me in supporting this amazing theatre company with any money you can spare and spread the word far and wide!
