On Sunday 24 March, I will be running for Team Angus in my second Colchester Half Marathon. Last year was the first time I’d ever attempted anything like this distance and the feeling of achievement was tremendous, not least because, with so many kind donations, it meant doing something to help a very dear friend and a very dear little boy.

In 2017, David, one of my closest and oldest friends, and his lovely wife Jess were looking forward to the birth of their second child. Unfortunately, complications set in as little Angus came into the world, leaving him with cerebral palsy.

From the moment of Angus’ birth, when David defied the odds and brought his new son back from the brink, the challenges set in and have continued, unabated ever since.

David, Jess and Angus’ big brother Saul, work tirelessly to meet those challenges head on and do everything in their power to give Angus the best possible chance of a long and happy life.

Help, support and opportunity are out there but, all too often, come at a cost. 

Giving to charity is often a rather abstract thing. The opportunity to see, firsthand, the impact of people’s generosity is rare. Fundraising for a cause so close to home is however quite different and we’ve already seen positive results from the specialist therapy and treatment that Team Angus has helped provide.

“May my heart always be open to little, birds who are the secrets of living“.  Let’s help this little bird fly.
