Brighton Marathon 2015 · 12 April 2015 ·

When patients in London suffer life-threatening injury, only our team can provide them with the help they need. With your support, we can perform complex procedures to save lives where others can’t. We can get there in time to make a difference and provide hope for the patient and their loved ones.

Story

This is our story:

On 12th April, 2015 - Chris and Will are running the Brighton Marathon in order to raise money for the London Air Ambulance.

We are both currently Student Paramedics ourselves, studying at Greenwich University. Will moved from Cardiff to study here and has been undertaking his placements at Greenwich Ambulance Station. During his first week on the road he was called to a minibus crash, where there were multiple casualties. The London Air ambulance attended this scene where W
ill got to experience the great work and procedures that these emergency doctors perform. All the patients in this major incident survived and it was down to the rapid response of all emergency personnel involved.

Chris is a Sports Science graduate who always had a passion for healthcare, previously caring for patients with Learning Disabilities. He is based at Deptford Ambulance Station and has been called to many life threatening emergencies. He is interested in raising money for this charity after seeing their importance during major incident training scenarios, which simulated terrorist attacks and a plane crash into City Airport. Chris has raised money for other charities by running half marathons and sky diving, but the Brighton marathon will be the biggest challenge to date and for a charity that is important to him.

There is only one Air Ambulance in London that delivers an advanced trauma team to the 10 million people who live, work and commute in to the capital. They can perform procedures ranging from emergency anesthesia to open heart surgery at the roadside, giving critically ill patients the best chance of survival. However, the cost of running this crucial service is £6 million per year! We learnt that even a crew members' helmet sets them back £1,500!

Paris has 6 helicopters and Sydney has 9. London needs another.

Therefore we are very grateful for any support that you can give, for the benefit of our friends, family and colleagues who work and live in London.

Thanks for your help.
