Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
My mum sadly died of cancer In June 2015 and in the final few days of her life, she was in the ellenor hospice at Gravesend. The staff there were absolutely wonderful. They took such great care of mum, even when she was no longer able to comprehend what was going on. She wasn't just a patient; to them she was Linda, a human being and she was special and that tenderness made so much difference to myself and my family. They treated her with utmost respect, dignity and compassion. To see them care for her like that was truly comforting to us. I cannot stress how remarkable, understanding and caring the staff at the hospice were, not just to mum but our family too.
ellenor receives no government funding and rely solely on public donations. They are an independent hospice based in Kent and they give the very best care to ensure that all families facing terminal illness get the right support in the best place possible, enabling them to make the most of the time they have. Care is provided:
* for all ages - from the very young to the very old;
* for all diagnoses - not just cancer;
* to support all needs - physical, practical, emotional and spiritual;
* in all places - at home, in hospital, a care home or the hospice; and
* to all concerned - patients, carers and families.
Therefore, to show my gratitude to ellenor, I want to raise much needed funds and awareness for them, in memory of mum. I was due to run the Brighton Marathon last year but unfortunately due to firstly a foot injury and secondly illness, I was unable to take part and deferred until this year where I have been lucky enough to be transferred to take part in the London Marathon.
I've had to start my training from scratch again but I'm pleased to say that it is going well. The foot is holding up and I'm putting the mileage in. I am looking for sponsorship to give me that extra motivation. Any donation large or small will be gratefully received and such a help to such a worthwhile and wonderful charity and it would mean so much to me to be able to give something back to the hospice to say simply "Thank you".

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and thank you to all those people who have supported me through the highs and lows of my journey over the past 15 months. If anyone would like to come and cheer me on in London, that would be fantastic and I look forward to seeing you en route.
