Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My mum, Marion, has never liked the limelight and I'm not sure being the centre of attention now would go down very well. Yet, as her illness prevents her from giving me her blessing I feel bound to share our story of the devastating effect that Alzheimer's disease can have on a family.
For too many months you are swept along with the slow, and not so slow, decline of a precious loved one. The overwhelming emotion is of helplessness and feeling no sense of control of what life has dealt you.
We hear everyday how Alzheimer's disease is affecting more and more people but nothing prepares you for the unending sadness of sitting by and watching your loved one consumed by this wicked disease.
It's this feeling of no control that has inspired and motivated me.
I'm no runner, challenge seeker or adrenaline junky. I've always watched my family run marathons, swim pier to pier and abseil from buildings.
But 2017 is the year I push myself to do something positive and productive.
I'm not planning to run a marathon but I will be walking one on 2nd September 2017.
Always saying ' I can't run' I will be doing my first ever parkrun. I will also do some other events throughout the year, including some less strenuous ones.
I would appreciate your support in any way you can.
2017 is going to be a tough year in many ways but I want to look back knowing I did all I could.
With all my heart, thank you x
