New York Marathon 2015 · 1 November 2015 ·

Every week in the UK, around two families are told their child has neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. We fund leading research projects to deliver new, effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma. With your help we can save more young lives.

Story

36 Years Old
6 Years to the weekend since I did New York Marathon
4 years since I had Beau
6 months since I had Esme
2 days until I attempt New York Marathon again!!!

Some may think that running a marathon isn't such a big challenge if you have done it before but I can tell you now, this has been an enormous, gruelling and at times painful challenge.  I set myself a crazy target which meant starting running training 6 weeks after having Esme and major surgery. I admit to having completely "lost it" during pregnancy and so I really was starting from the very beginning with the training. Coupled with having 2 kids, working and trying to be a good wife and friend, training has been difficult to say the least!!

So I'm 2 days away, I have picked up my recurrent IT band overuse injury which is why I'm so late putting up my fundraising page as I was a doubtful runner! But I'm going to attempt it, with my wonderful, also injured, husband by my side and we will hobble round together.

Why I hear you ask?? Good question! Simple, to raise money for a very worthy cause. Simon's nephew Luke was diagnosed with an aggressive childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma when he was 3, he fought extremely hard but devastatingly died just before his 5th birthday. Neuroblastoma UK is a fantastic charity that not only helps support parents of children with Neuroblasoma but it also raises money to fund research into improving treatments. It's a smart charity too, they hold an annual Symposium every year to get all the specialists, researchers and doctors together from Europe to discuss latest findings and future research to ensure that research is progressing in the most efficient and effective way possible. I was so impressed by them I have recently become and Trustee. Sadly with so many of these things it all comes down to money. We need money to fund research which will develop better treatments.

So please, if you can, donate as little or as much as you are able. I am hugely grateful and appreciative to everyone for your support.  If I raise over £500 before 5am Sunday New York time I will run the marathon looking absolutely ludicrous as SuperWoman...and I will take a mortifying picture and post it up here!  Luke, like all little boys, loved super heroes and Simon has run his last 2 marathons dressed as Buzz Lightyear and Spider-Man so tonight Matthew I'm going to be SuperWoman (well maybe....if I hit the target!)

Big thanks to everyone for their support and particularly to Carolynn Anderson, Gail Hacking and Dan from Perfect U who have been key to me getting to New York....
