We’re the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. And we’re building a future where people and nature thrive together. That’s why we’re passionate about sharing the planet’s resources more sustainably, tackling climate change and protecting endangered wildlife.

Story

I live in the sustainability bungalow of
my university and as part of my role I campaign for sustainable living by
organising gardening sessions, upcycling craft workshops, movie nights to raise
awareness on the environment and sustainability, campaigning to eliminate
single use plastic at our student union, encouraging reduction of food waste
and more. I have rallied together a whole community of people passionate about
the planet and our impact on the environment who have agreed to support me in
raising money for WWF for this marathon. I study biology and one of my modules
is titled Human Impacts on the Environment in which I see how crucial it is
that our inefficient, unsustainable systems change. I was part of the first
ever virtual climate action lobby vocalising the importance of a green
transition post-lockdown to my then MP, Theresa Villiers. I was part of a green
fair next to the WWF stall at my university and was inspired to run to make a
difference. Last year I ran Student Eats - an initiative to grow our own fruit
and vegetables in the university allotments. I make every effort to be
environmental in my life from individual action e.g. vegan diet, zero food
waste, mindful energy consumption to collective action e.g. protesting,
campaigning, educating. I am currently training to complete a Carbon Literacy
certification. I believe that climate change, the degradation of our natural
world and worldwide extinction of animals is the single greatest problem facing
the world right now and it is our responsibility to protect and care for our
planet. I want to spread the word and inspire further joint action towards
conservation efforts and I believe that supporting WWF is the way to do so.
Through fundraising, I hope to reach more people so that we can all become more
aware of our individual impact and the vital importance of living sustainably
in symbiosis with planet Earth.
