Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The Dyspraxia Foundation is a country Wide charity, founded in 1987 as the Dyspraxia Trust by two mothers who met at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. After being told that their children had Dyspraxia they were astonished and dismayed to discover that no facilities existed to help or inform parents and children with the condition. They decided to form their own group to help others to help themselves.
Fast forward to oct 2011when my Nephew Blake got diagnosed with Dyspraxia. He was only 3 years old. He was late walking and talking and was behind on his gross motor skills like running and jumping and riding a bike- all the things that kids should love doing!
The Dyspraxia Foundation were invaluable to my Sister and my Nephew. The advice line meant someone was there to give practical help completing statements to help Blake get the support he needed at school. Local Support groups meant my Sister and Blake could meet with other children who had Dyspraxia and their parents and discuss things such as dealing with bullying and building up his confidence.
Basically the Dyspraxia Foundation has given my Nephew Blake the support he's needed early on to have a childhood and all the opportunities children without the condition have. He's now a confident, popular energetic nine year old who loves school and going to cubs- and it's through the help of this amazing charity and the hard work of my Sister that this has been possible.
The Charity also do a lot of work to raise awareness of Dyspraxia a condition which not a lot is known about. Sadly, money is tight and the charity recently lost their big lottery funding- restricting their advice line. This was the one thing that started my Nephew getting the help he needed.
So, I am running 10k through London on 9th July to give something back to this amazing charity in the hope that the money we raise will go some way to raising awareness and helping other children enjoy their childhoods the way my Nephew is now.
If you can spare a little to sponsor us, I'd be really grateful.
