We are the Swashbuckling Six: James, Alice, Yohei, Abel, Amy and Hannah.
We're taking part in the Totally Thames Challenge 2015, in support of the Ahoy Centre. On 19 September, we'll be rowing from Westminster to Greenwich, an 8.5 mile (13.7km) journey.
This will be quite the challenge as we have very little rowing experience between us other than the 'messing about in boats' kind. But as well as having a laugh and enjoying the sights, we're also doing this in aid of a great charity, and need to raise a total of £1800 as a team, with all proceeds going straight to the Ahoy Centre.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal with any donation you can provide, and help us reach the finish line with any motivational support!
About the Ahoy Centre:
The Ahoy Centre are a great charity based in Deptford, South East London. They change people's lives and help build valuable life skills through sailing and rowing. They provide disadvantaged and at-risk youths with the opportunity to participate in watersports-based activities and courses, all while teaching transferable and employable skills.
The Swashbuckling Six
Why the name? Because race day also happens to be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, of course.
And who are we?
Captain James Hook - our one-armed Captain who will lead our crew to the treasure, with plenty of bounty for all.
First Mate Yohei is the captain's right hand man, ensuring no one rocks the boat
Helmsman Abel keeps the ship on a steady course
Navigator Alice will direct us straight to the spot marked with an X
Gunner Amy keeps enemy boats in her sights
Shipwright Hannah makes sure we're never up the creek without a paddle.
