Story
In 2017, my wonderful Grandad Brian was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. It was news I wasn't expecting, and it really shocked and devastated both myself, and my family.
My grandad was always the life and soul of the party, the funny one in the room, and he loved a good boogie (still does really), but over the past seven years, we have watched as he has become quieter, and stopped enjoying a lot of the things that used to bring him an immense amount of joy. His body also struggles to function the way it used to, meaning he doesn't really do much anymore.
He is incredibly special to me, and has been by my side supporting me since day one, even when I forced him to play endless singing games with me at bath time.
I am also running the London Marathon to celebrate my Grandma, Colleen, who is my Grandad's sole carer, and dedicates her whole life to keeping him as safe, happy and active as possible. Even through a cancer diagnosis, surgery, and treatment, she was always more concerned about Grandad, and giving him the best care possible.
My Grandparents are honestly two of my best friends, and everybody who knows them, adores them!! So I am raising money for Alzheimer's Society in honour of both of them.
Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.
