Locked in for Autism · 29 September 2016
Hi, my name is Amanda and very soon I am putting my life on hold for 50 hours to help Caudwell Children generate more understanding of autism.
From Noon on Thursday 29th September to 2pm on Saturday 1st October, I will be living inside a glass box in the foyer of the Tesco Extra store on Spytty Road in Newport (NP19 4TZ)
I will eat, sleep, work and play inside the 3m x 2m structure, in full view of the public. Mobile phones and gadgets are banned from the box, so I will be relying on YOUR support to get me through!
Many parents of autistic children have told the charity that the glass box is a metaphor for the condition. Being stared at from all directions and experiencing difficulty with communicating, while feeling isolated, is how some autistic children feel. All money raised will stay local to the area and be used to support autistic children and their families across Newport, through the Caudwell Children ACT Programme.
Of course there are many large stores and leading brands at the Newport Retail Park, so if you are anywhere close over these few days, please do pop in and say hello! The team from Caudwell Children will be on hand throughout the 50 hours to discuss how they support local autistic children, and to talk about the condition in general.
You can donate in store, here on just giving or via your mobile phone. Text: SPYT64 £amount to 70070.
Many thanks!
Amanda
