On Sunday April 28th I'll be running the London Marathon to raise money for the Gurkha Welfare Trust, a truly amazing charity that provides former Gurkha soldiers and their families much-needed care and ongoing support.   These Gurkha veterans fought as part of the British Army, (some of the oldest saw service as far back as WW2) and many now live in remote villages far up in the Himalayas.  

Traditionally the GWT provides medical care, oversees the payment of pensions, builds schools, wells and bridges and provides occasional support following floods, landslides and other natural disasters.   

The massive earthquake in 2015 devastated villages throughout the country, cut roads and destroyed crops and livestock.   Since then the GWT have worked tirelessly to reestablish contact with the most isolated veterans but they need additional funds to help the men and their families get back on their feet and ensure that they can live securely and with dignity.

I served with the Gurkhas in the early part of my career and know first hand how kind, wonderful and terrifying they are... furthermore I know the incredible debt that we owe them for the support they have provided the UK for generations.  The following link from the GWT website provides further details:
