We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thank you for visiting my page.

In my job I tend to be the one supporting incredible people who take on extraordinary challenges to raise funds and help others who need it most - but when was I going to pull my finger out!?

For those of you that know me, you'll be aware I'm not exactly a slim, slender, long legged marathon runner. I am In-fact the exact opposite to that; a bit chunky with not much height.

So when Mary presented me with the opportunity to take on Paris Marathon with her this coming April 9th I wasn't exactly chomping her arm off to do so. Needless to say the training has begun, and a 10k was completed in December in a not too shabby 48 minutes.

*** NEW YEAR, NEW ME***

As we have arrived in January 2017 it appears I may have gone slightly mad - the opportunity to run London Marathon on the 23rd of April (Yes 2 weeks exactly after Paris) was too good to turn down. If we're being completely honest I may never want to run again so 52.4miles in 14 days seems the most sensible way.

I am fundraising for JDRF, the world leading type 1 diabetes medical research charity. Type 1 diabetes is
a chronic, life-threatening condition that has a life-long impact on those diagnosed with it. It often strikes in childhood, meaning parents of kids with type 1 must inject their little ones with insulin multiple times each and every day, just to keep them alive. However type 1 can develop at any age.

Type 1 diabetes affects about 400,000 people in the UK, 29,000 of them children.

Shockingly, a child diagnosed at the age of five faces up to 19,000 injections and 50,000 finger prick blood tests by the time they are 18.

Those who live with type 1, do so 365 days of year and it's a 'job' they must do 24 hours a day. By running 2 marathons on 2 Sundays in April I hope to work hard to raise funds to help those living with T1D.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
