Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

As most of you may already be aware, Alison and I have decided to take part in the 10k Great Scottish Run on Sunday 5th September 2010. We have chose to raise money for The Cysitis Fibrosis Trust, in loving memory of my cousin Lauren Day who sadly passed away from CF in 2006.

Our target back in January when we signed up for the run was £1000. However, since then we held a Charity Night on Friday 2nd July and managed to raise £1741 on the night. Once again I would like to thank everyone who helped on the night and for those who came along :) we couldnt have done it without you!!

A little bit about Cystic Fibrosis (CF)

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases.

Cystic Fibrosis affects over 8,500 people in the UK.

Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis - around 1 in 25

of the population.

If two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging

them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.

Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis.

Each week, three young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.

Around half of the CF population can expect to live over 38 years, although improvements in

treatments mean a baby born today could expect to live even longer.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dealing with all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis. They provide information, advice and support to families. They also aim to ensure appropriate care for those with CF and, most importantly, they fund medical research to treat and cure Cystic Fibrosis.

90% of people with Cystic Fibrosis die of lung damage. Effective gene therapy will stop lung damage. The CF Trust has invested well over £15 million to develop a gene therapy product. A pilot study is underway and if successful, will lead to the world’s largest CF gene therapy clinical trial.

With your help, hopefully one day a cure will be found for this tragic illness.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please please please dig deep and sponsor us online.

All donations will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tammy & Alison xxx
