Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The whole school will attempt to swim 30 lengths each in 15 minutes to replicate the hardest test the Royal Marines do to earn their 'Green Lid', a 30 mile speed march across Dartmoor.
The Royal Marines, ready to deploy anytime, anywhere, in whatever conditions the mission throws their way. By sea, land or air. In scorching heat, biting cold or dense jungles. They are one of the world’s elite fighting forces – courageous, selfless and positive in the face of any challenge. Their secret? Pushing themselves to the physical and mental limit. Here at Taunton School we share similar values, our motto Carpe Diem ‘seize the day’ reflects this. Unfortunately in doing their important role Royal Marines get injured. The Royal Marine Charity is charged with helping the wounded and injured especially when others can’t. Taunton School has strong military ties and shares a long association with The Royal Marines both in our geography, our current pupils, our teaching staff and parent body.
Teams of pupils and teachers recently picked up the Royal Marine gauntlet and raced across the English Channel. The Pupil Team lost by 3 minutes after 22 miles of swimming, 5 hours of which was in total darkness. The Royal Marines Commandos say on being a Royal Marine that ‘it’s a state of mind’, and at Taunton School we think we have that state of mind. In raising money for the Royal Marine Charity and racing against the Royal Marines, we hope to prove it.
