We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On Sunday 21st April 2024, I’ll be taking part in the London Marathon for Brain Tumour Research in memory of my Grandmother, Vanessa Carr.

In October 2020, my gorgeous Nanny (Vanessa Carr) was diagnosed with stage 4 Brain Cancer.

Nanny was the most amazing person ever. She loved everything about life; the small things, big things and everything in between. She was truly the most beautiful person, and I feel so very lucky that she wasn’t just  my Nan, but also my best friend.

During the illness, Nanny was so strong, and always tried to be positive for her family- she was so brave. She did her very best to fight the cancer until the end.

Watching this horrible disease  erode not just her body, but her mind, was devastating to watch and caused our family so much pain.  In the later stages of the diagnosis, the only way to describe it, was cancer combined with dementia. It was horrendous and so unfair. To this day I still can’t understand how someone THAT perfect could suffer so much.

In February 2022 after a courageous fight, Nanny sadly lost her battle leaving her husband Geoff, two daughters Sandra and Angie, and granddaughters Teagan who was 21 at the time and Millie who was only 1, behind.

Nanny was 65. And she had so much more life to live. She was devastated to leave her family- and we live with the devastating loss of her everyday.

Even though my time with Nanny was much shorter than I would have liked- I am so grateful for the time I did have with her and I promised her before she died that I would do everything I could to make her proud.. and I suppose this is a way for me to help others who will suffer from this cruel disease in the future, while also keeping Nanny’s legacy alive.

We miss her everyday and nothing will ever be the same, but I want to do everything I can to avoid people in the future going through what my family, and so many others have sadly gone through.

Please donate whatever you can❤️

-Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40

-Just 12% of adults survive for five years after diagnosis

-Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours

We love and miss you Nanny💔
