Story
Rob, Jade, and Jenny, have taken on the challenge of summiting three peaks in less than 24 hours to raise money to help conserve and protect the Galapagos Islands.
The day will start at 5 am with the ascent of Mt. Snowdon, followed by Cadair Idris and finally Pen y Fan. A day of intense trekking across the wild west of Britain, they will no doubt be descending the last in the dark!
Whilst Snowdonia is known for snow flurries and sheep, Galapagos is known for it’s equatorial heat, giant tortoises and sea going lizards. The thought of trekking around a UK national park for the good of an Ecuadorian national park seems fitting.
‘As GCT is the only UK based charity working solely for the preservation of the world famous Galapagos archipelago, as members of staff we felt we should get outside and raise some money for the threatened species of the archipelago in partnership with the great outdoors.’
- Jade
Why does Galapagos need help?
Over 50 Galapagos species are now listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List and more than 20 are endangered. Invasive species are causing devastation among native plants and animals, increasing urbanisation is resulting in the loss of pristine habitat, and over-fishing is disrupting the finely tuned marine balance.
