Story
#TeamGeorges supporters and staff are taking on the Captain Tom 100 Challenge by walking, running, skipping their way around the Perimeter Road of the hospital 100 times.
One lap of the hospital is 1.3km, so in total we will be covering an amazing 130km in distance!
The Covid Pandemic is the worst crisis our NHS has ever faced and it has meant that St George’s, Queen Mary’s and our local community hospitals have been under extreme pressures with staff working tirelessly, day in day out, to provide patients with the care they need.
Whilst the number of Covid admissions is decreasing and the vaccination programme means that there is light at the end of the tunnel, our staff are physically and emotionally exhausted, and these pressures will continue for the foreseeable future.
Last year Captain Tom stepped up to help, taking on his famous walk to support the NHS Covid-19 appeal and inspiring millions to donate to the cause. We will be celebrating the extraordinary spirit of Captain Tom and supporting our hospitals through all walking a lap of the perimeter road of St George’s Hospital.
All the funds we raise will go towards St George’s Hospital Charity’s Thank You Appeal. This will help ensure the most urgent needs of our hospitals are addressed quickly as well as helping any area to secure items that are ‘over and above’ what is normally provided. That could be new medical equipment, bulbs for the gardens surrounding the hospital, supporting our staff and patients staying in hospital over Christmas, support group funding for those living with chronic conditions, arts and musical therapies, and so much more.
We are encouraging those who take on the challenge to make a donation but we would also love if you could support us by virtually cheering us on, matching our donations or sponsoring on of our #TeamGeorges walkers!
