We are for kids with RARE diseases to Give the children a chance to SMILE

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As many of you will be aware we have a good friend with a young daughter who has a life limiting rare disease.  They spend a lot of time in Glasgow Hospital For Sick Children and during these times they are supported by Samuel's Smile.  To help raise funds for this fantastic charity, the three of us will be participating in the charities hike up Beinn Narnain, a munro of 3038ft by Loch Lomond.  Euans first munro and only his second hill walk of any length.  Its going to be quite a challenge!

Samuel was the first baby in Scotland who was wholly dependant on TPN (Total Parental Nutrition), and therefore Samuel and his family know first hand what lies ahead for kids who need this form of nutrition to stay alive.

To be told that your child has a life limiting, chronic, debilitating condition is one thing, but to then be told that the very thing keeping them alive (TPN) is slowly killing them, is a difficult situation to get your head around.

For anyone lucky enough to have met Samuel, you will know that he doesn't let his condition (Hirschprungs with total intestinal failure) get him down.  He strongly believes that his purpose in life is to help kids in similar circumstances and to make them as happy as possible.

Sharon (Samuels mum) and Samuel work tirelessly - from providing emotional support to other parents who have kids with rare conditions to meeting up with Trust management at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to discuss TPN/Hospital issues with Governmental bodies.  The list is endless.

Every penny raised for Samuel's Smile goes directly to kids with rare diseases in Scotland.  The charity hold family days out, trips, Christmas parties and regularly visit kids in hospital.

Please help us to help Samuel's Smile with their work.  Every child deserves happiness, but for these rare kids life revolves around regular hospital visits, multiple surgeries and prolonged hospital admissions.  Things that are taken for granted by "normal" kids are just that little bit more special for these ones.

Thank you for reading our story, please donate what you can and wish us luck on our climb.
