Story

My name is Darren Dixon, and I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request for your support as I take on a series of charity fitness events, starting with a Macmillan Cancer Support Hike on the 10th of May 2025. This isn’t just about fundraising for me — it’s about transformation, legacy, and giving back in every way I can.

A few years ago, my life was on a very different path. After spending time in prison, I was forced to confront some harsh truths about myself. I made a promise — not only to my kids but to myself — that I would do everything I could to change. It wasn’t easy. But along that journey, I met people who helped me believe it was possible. One of the most important was Daniel Burke.

Dan was an ex-forces veteran, full of strength, humility, and purpose. Inside, we trained together daily — running laps, lifting what we could, and pushing each other through the mental and emotional grind. He became a brother to me. Dan had a fire in him that inspired everyone around him to strive for more. When he was released, he went on to do something extraordinary: he created an NGO (Dark Angels) to evacuate families from war zones in Ukraine. It was a mission that cost him his life — but not before he left a mark on everyone who knew him.

After his death, a few of us paid tribute the only way we knew how: 1,000 burpees in lockdown followed by a 10-mile run in the yard. That day changed something in me. I realised this wasn’t just about fitness. It was about honour. Purpose. And Redemption. Dan showed me that you don’t have to be perfect to make a difference — you just have to care enough to act.

Now that I’m out, I’ve committed to continuing that mission in my own way. I’m taking part in a Macmillan Charity Hike because cancer has touched my own family — my brother fought it, and seeing that struggle up close made me realise how vital support networks like Macmillan really are. This hike is the first of many. I plan to take on multiple events this year, using every step, rep, and mile to raise funds for those who need it most.

I’m asking for your help. Whether it’s a financial donation towards my target of £250, equipment support, promotion, or simply sharing my story — it all makes a difference. Every pound raised goes directly to Macmillan Cancer Support, helping provide care for people in their hardest moments.

I know I can’t change the world alone. But together, we can make a real impact — for those battling illness, for those trying to rebuild their lives, and for those like Dan, who gave everything to help others.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’d love the opportunity to speak with someone from your team and explore how you might be able to support this mission.

With gratitude and respect,

Darren Dixon
