Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are trekking the wall as a family. Each one of us have been affected in some way by dementia, either by personal experience or working directly with suffers and carers.
Dementia is one of the most heartbreaking illness's you will ever come across, it affects everybody who is involved and to date no cure has been found, we have medication that can slow down the progression of the illness, but does not stop it.
We need to raise awareness and help raise vital funds to help suffers and their carers and for research so that hopefully one day a cure can be found.
Thank You (Mike Thorne)
Last week I was sitting on a bench in the park when an elderly couple came and sat beside me. They were holding hands and the woman became agitated and started shouting .Her husband just held onto her hand and stroked her face until she became calmer. Then quite suddenly she looked him in the eye and said clearly l do love you you know. It really moved me but made me realise the difficulties dementia can bring. That could one day be me or someone I love. That's why I'm walking the great wall next year. (Anne Craig) Thank you
Our wonderful aunty sadly recently died as a result of Alzheimer's. She was a fantastic mother, grandmother, sister and aunty, she loved to spend time with her family and was loved by all. As time went by she was unaware of how many lives she had touched with her warmth & kindness. Her memory and thinking skills were slowly destroyed and eventually the ability to carry out the simplest of tasks. We all have our own stories and most of us one way or another know someone who has been affected by this disease and the devastating effects this can have on everyone involved. We hope by doing the China Trek and raising awareness that we can contribute in a small way towards the much needed research to aid the global fight for a world without Alzheimer's (Maggie Thorne) Thank you
