We have just finished on the set of "The Happy Lands", a film created through the collective effort of Fife's former mining community and we'd like to invite you to support them. This is an exceptional project where over 300 local people have worked long hours writing the script, making the costumes, building sets and acting in the production.

Inspired by poet Joe Corrie and written from participants' family stories, the film is set around the 1926 General Strike in a fictional town. It follows the lives of a mining community as they overcome prejudice and financial hardship, through a collective spirit and determination.

Tony Garnett, producer of classic British films "Kes" and "Cathy Come Home", writes:

"A film set in a mining community during the 1926 General Strike is unexpected in the present climate. One created by a community - that is, by the creative involvement of the whole community - may be unique. Make that a community which was still digging coal itsef up to the 1980s, whose parents and grandparents were actually part of the 1926 strike, who listened as children to first hand accounts, and have brought that experience to the film: well, then you have something remarkable. This is original and daring. It promises emotional authority. It could be an example for others to follow."

Please note - TWS is an educational charity and the film is a not-for-profit venture, made on a comparatively low budget.
