International Students House (ISH) is a charity that enables young people from around the globe to achieve their academic ambitions. We provide accommodation, scholarships and hardship funds to support students in need, and cultural activities to foster an international community.

Story

GHANA 2011

On 31st March 2011, I'm planning to embark to Ghana! In affiliation with ISH [International Students House] and BUNAC, me and eleven volunteers will be staying in Akyem Juaso, a rural village situated in the rainforest belt of Ghana where the majority of the income is raised from farming crops such as cocoa, citrus and palm oil.

As for volunteering duties, we'll be working on constructing a sanitary block for a community primary school. Unfortunately sanitation is a rarity for schools in rural Ghana, so we're hoping this project will really make a difference to the kids.

We'll also get the opportunity to volunteer alongside teachers, with general duties such as assisting in the classroom and providing extra curricular activities for all to enjoy.

The sponsorship money will go to construction materials and the local NGO in Ghana. BUNAC is a not for profit organisation and their primary aim is to create a better and improved quality of living in LEDC's.

ALSO, informally: I'm a sleeping pig, sponsor me to get out of bed at 5:00am everyday (Ghana and England are on the same GMT!) and help me develop my very non-existent manly building ability.

I need to raise £100.00 minimum sponsorship to make this possible, and I'll be extremely grateful to anyone who can help :).
