Story

Hi I'm Tia and I'm a 19 year old student nurse from Plymouth/Dorset and here's my story..

On the 24th of August 2016 myself and 39 other students from Plymouth university will take part in a 6 day trek of a life time all for a fantastic cause! Meningitis is a deadly bacteria that can strike quickly, with an impact that could last a life time. Meningitis and septicaemia can turn anyone's world upside down, leaving many victims with after-effects such as deaf, lost limbs and blindness. The most affected age range for meningitis is students and young children and as a paediatric nurse I feel that I can do something about the amount of young children and students I will see in my career pass through the doors of A&E.

My task is to raise £2990 and climb the highest free standing mountain in the world Kilimanjaro. I know for a fact that its not going to be easy along my studies but with hard work determination and a sessions at the gym on a weekly basis I will be able to achieve this I just need as much support as I can get over the next 9 months.

Kilomanjaro stands at 19,342ft above sea level and to me will not only be a physical challenge but a mental and emotional one too. The altitude, low temperatures and high winds will make my trek difficult and dangerous as well as suffering from the effects of acclimation. Many climbers abandon the attempt to get to the top of the mighty killer due to the acclimatisation however choose a challenge have never failed to get 100% of their participants there.

So please give whatever you can afford to this amazing cause as for all you know one day they could be saving your life.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
