Hackney Half 2023 · 21 May 2023 ·
Hi!
We're running the Hackney Half marathon on the 21st May to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and fight for a life unlimited.
The two little fighters in the picture are our brother Tom’s children, O and Y, who truly light up our lives. We are proud to be their aunt and uncle, they inspire us and we feel so lucky to have a tight bond with them.
Living with CF, which causes mucus to build up in the lungs, is hard work every day, and every cough and cold can cause life-threatening complications.
Every day, O and Y have to take dozens of medicines and do 2 hours of physio just to manage their condition. For them and over 10 000 others in the UK, there is no day off.
Just a generation ago, children born with this genetic disorder rarely survived past 6 months. When O was born, his life expectancy was 30 years. In the space of 3 years, thanks to advances in research and the release of Kaftrio, life expectancy has now been increased to 40-45 years.
As much as this is encouraging, there is still a long way to go to guarantee a life unlimited for people with CF.
The CF Trust has done amazing work to help fund the development of new drugs to fight Cystic Fibrosis, and we're on the cusp of new drugs that would allow O and Y to outlive their aunt and uncle.
Thank you so much for the support.
