Emmaus provides a lasting solution to homelessness by offering formerly homeless people a home, work experience and the chance to regain self-respect in a supportive environment.

Story

Hello, we are a team of 3 (not so fit) runners taking part in the Birmingham 10k in aid of Emmaus a homelessness charity. Here's a little bit about how the charity has helped us and why we are raising money for Emmaus:

Tom- I joined Emmaus as a companion in March 2014 and it has helped me combat drug addiction and I am now a full time member of staff since December 2015. When I heard about the race I thought it would be a great way to raise money for Emmaus as well as rai9sing awareness of the good work going on up and down the country.

Steve: I always welcome the chance to raise money for Emmaus as they have given me a multitude of opportunities that I wouldn't have had access to if I was not a part of the Emmaus community in Carlton. Every penny raised will help towards the good work that Emmaus does for those in need.

Dean: I have been a companion at Emmaus Carlton for 2 years in June; Emmaus has helped me out of a vicious circle of poor housing, rough sleeping and dead end jobs. It was my support worker who helped me apply for a place at Emmaus and ever since I have never looked back. I have gone from being in a hopeless situation to a life filled with purpose and meaning. When I heard that Tom was taking part in the Birmingham 10k I saw it as my opportunity to highlight the great work that goes on at Emmaus.
