Story
I am running the London Marathon in April 2017 and the Snowdonia Trail Marathon in July 2017 to raise money for two charities, one of which is the Barbara Bus Fund.
A friend in the RAF who is a former teammate and top runner, suffered life-changing spinal injuries in a parachute accident in 2016 and the Barbara Bus Fund has been paramount in supporting Rob’s recovery at Headley Court by providing wheelchair accessible vehicles. These vehicles cost upwards of £450 per week from a hire company and the Barbara Bus Fund provides them for those in need and only asks for affordable donations.
They ultimately aim to raise £32,000 to fund a new 2-wheelchair vehicle with the hope to eventually have one based full-time at DMRC Headley Court for all future injured servicemen and women to use.
The Barbara Bus Fund was started in 1968 by Barbara Werndly who herself was an inpatient at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. The Fund is a registered charity with a fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles. For more information please visit www.barbarabus.com.
