Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Although I have run the London Marathon before this is the first time I have run for a specific charity and this year I decided to run for Breathrough the breast cancer charity. In the late fifties my mum contracted breast cancer and despite all her efforts and that of the doctors she died in 1958 leaving my dad to look after the four of us ranging in age from myself who was nine years old at the time down to my sister who was eighteen months old. It was a traumatic event for the family and my dad never really got over it and sadly died five years later from a brain tumour.
Recently my mother-in-law was diagnosed with the disease, but after treatment she is now in remission and has hopefully beaten the illness.
With 125 women and one man being diagnosed with breast cancer every day in the UK, I would like to do something in memory of my mum and also to help others who are suffering from this disease.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a pioneering charity dedicated to the prevention, treatment and ultimate eradication of breast cancer. They believe passionately that this disease can be beaten. By fighting on three fronts – research, campaigning and education – they are determined to change lives by removing the fear of breast cancer for good.
