Story

Tony Byrne MBE is known to thousands of people across the world as a teacher, coach, mentor and friend. As the founder of Salto Gymnastics Centre in Dunmurry (est.1985), the first full-time gymnastics facility in Ireland and coach to 7 successive NI Commonwealth Games teams (1982-2006) he has been instrumental in the development of the sport and the establishment of the first purpose-built gymnastics Centre of Excellence in Ireland, in Lisburn (2005).

At the end of 2021 Tony was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, a progressive neurological disorder that destroys motor neurones that control muscle activity. Despite the devastating diagnosis, Tony maintains his generous spirit and is keen to raise awareness of MND, as well as funds to support people living with the condition in NI and contribute to research to treat and ultimately prevent the disease.

All funds raised will go to the NI branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association https://www.mndani.com/donations-2021/ Please donate what you can and feel free to send messages of support to Tony & his family.
