Story
In July 2015, our cousin James passed away suddenly after having a cardiac arrest as a result of undiagnosed Sarcoidosis at the age of 29.
Sarcoidosis is a rare condition that causes small patches of red and swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in the organs of the body. It usually affects the lungs and skin.
SarcoidosisUK (formerly SILA) are the only UK charity which exists to provide information and support for people with sarcoidosis, and to fund research into a cure and early diagnosis of this condition. They have limited public awareness and as a result struggle to access adequate funds to continue with their research.
Just before James passed, he sold his business, Buddy’s Baguettes in Worcester, to fund his dream coast to coast cycle of America with his school friends from Worcester Grammar. Unfortunately, James was taken from us before the trip started, so we have decided to do our own cycle in his memory.
James’ brothers Ollie and Harry Milbourne; Step-Dad Rob Smith; Uncle Alan Matthews, and cousins Rich Baldwin, Matt Lloyd, Matthew (Urb) Collins and Chris and Rob Matthews are cycling from James’ home town Worcester to Lyme Regis on 21st September 2017, where he holidayed with his family every year.
We have never cycled any long distance before and many of us haven't been on a bike since our childhood, which for some of us was 60 years ago! We aim to cover the 140 miles in 2-days with our limited 6 weeks preparation and training. Every donation for this charity would be greatly appreciated.
Watch this space as we will update this page with our progress on training and the cycle itself.
