Story

Hiya folks

Anyone who knows me, knows I rarely do social media, And I should have done this some time ago, but I just couldn’t face it, it all felt a little overwhelming as it’s so personal. But it’s mighty important and it’s not about me, it’s about raising money for this vibrant amazing charity, that is close to all our hearts, a bit of a national institution, I mean who doesn’t love a Macmillan Coffee Morning? Filled with positivity, support and cake.

It’s only when you find yourself face to face with cancer you see what a powerful and essential charity Macmillan is.  In July 2021 I was diagnosed with cancer,  stage four, inoperable. Nothing has ever gripped my head and my heart in a vice like that before. Being taken into a room, and gently yet firmly that you have cancer is beyond devastating, the only thing that could be worse is a  loved one being diagnosed. All I felt was I needed to protect my daughters 17 and 11 at the time, I had this enormous deep feeling I had failed them, I just couldn’t let them down. My incredible consultant team at The Christie Hospital wasted no time, within weeks I was having aggressive treatment that would continue for some months. Macmillan swooped into action on an emotional and practical level and helped me with all the day to day financial planning that needed to be sorted whilst having treatment- all in easy digestible chunks (my treatment caused a lot is side affects, chronic fatigue one of them). Macmillan also wanted to support those closest to me, and to this day are there if I need them. Sadly in our family we have lost Uncle George and more recently uncle Steve, no one should go through such heartache and grief as their loved ones have, but there is somewhere to cling onto when it’s overwhelming and you just need someone, or advice. We need to keep this charity to keep helping cancer patients and their families. That’s why I’ll be hiking in Ireland in their memory and for my deepest thank you for being there for me.

I know it will be a honour and a beautiful day. I will be hiking with Team Sparkle with Ainsley Ashton and Justine Clerc, so there will be great company, along with all the other fabulous walkers.

So this is where I ask you to please sponsor my page, I pledged the minimum because I lost so little on Facebook… but secretly hoping I can do better.

It really does work, if and I hope none of you will ever need it. But sadly we must all know someone that has.

Wish me look, my legs aren’t what they once was!! (Another odd side affect from treatment wobbly, heavy legs! )

Much love to you all, and to those who have got me this far, thank you, I love you very  very much more than I can say

In 2023, I am taking on a Mighty Hike along the magical  Giant causeway in Ireland  to raise money for people living with cancer.I have pledged to raise £250 and would appreciate any support in reaching this. It could go towards funding a Macmillan Support Worker for two days who could provide emotional, practical and financial advice to someone affected by cancer. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting cost
