Story
Riah has been spoilt, especially since she had a cancerous tumuor removed only 4 weeks after we lost her best friend Bailey to bone cancer. As a result she is overweight. She's lost 6 kilos over the past 6 months but she needs to lose around another 6. Weight loss isn't easy for Riah, even though she is on special weight reduction kibble. However Riah has been donating her pocket money for the fatty treats she used to have ( swopped with healthier treats) to the rescue dogs that ECR are helping. This is a fantastic charity run by a handful of dedicated, kind-hearted wonderful people. I help out by walking those dogs they rescue that are having to be boarded in kennels due to there not being enough foster homes/until a forever home is found. It is wonderful to meet and spend time with the dogs that have been saved from being put to sleep just because they have served their 7 days with the dog warden and no-one has claimed them; dogs that have been abandoned/neglected; and dogs that their current owners can no longer afford to or are able to keep/ have the necessary time to devote to them, And then see them go on to find loving forever homes. The dogs are soooo grateful for having someone spend a little time with them/give them cuddles at the kennels (and have a few treats ;))) ECR are getting huge numbers of requests to take dogs in, but this all costs money. For each dog there are food bills, vet bills, kennelling costs, costs of spaying/neutering, routine vaccinations etc. and it can take some months before a loving forever home becomes available.
As most of you are aware, I have M.E( Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) so for me, 4 hours of non-stop walking with the rescue dogs every weekend is currently no mean feat. Walking is about the only exercise my condition allows me to do at present, so, like Riah, weight loss for me is also very difficult, and means I can't do a sponsored bike ride/trek/marathon. However, Riah and I are up for the dieting challenge to help her doggie pals. We started today (20 July) and are aiming to lose as much weight as possible by 20 December. Just in time for Xmas so the doggies can have some nice Xmas presents with the money raised and I can have a mince pie and Xmas roast lunch :))
The doggies would be soooooooo grateful if you could spare whatever you can, a fixed amount, or a set amount of money based on how much weight we ( hopefully) lose. It's amazing how just £2 from you, added to £2 from others can add up and help make a huge difference. We can't change the world, but YOU can help change one dog's world forever.
Could you donate just £2... Less than a posh coffee ....
