Story
Sadly breast cancer is an indiscriminate disease which can affect women and men of all ages unexpectedly. This is what happened in February to one of our friends, Loraine, who is a treasured member of our back2netball group. She has been an absolute inspiration to us all over the past 9 months, fighting this disease with positivity, courage and tenacity, attending netball training in all weathers and playing matches whenever her body allowed, with the magnificent support of her wonderful family and friends. She recently shared the fantastic news that she is now cancer free, though her rehab and treatment is ongoing for many months. Unfortunately though this disease continues to afflict many others and the fight goes on to extinguish it.
Against Breast Cancer is a proactive charity set up almost 30 years ago by a dedicated and inspirational husband and wife team, involved in pathology and breast cancer nursing, who were determined to make an impact on breast cancer survival. Today, the charity funds research projects to the value of £4 million, and its researchers have continued to make advances in their search to prevent secondary spread, increase survival and ultimately aim to discover a vaccine to prevent the disease. This is only happening with our help. Please check out their website (www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk) for information on the many research projects happening currently and trials we can all participate in.
I will be doing a 10 mile walk with a group of friends around the Banstead countryside and running a refreshments stall, to raise money for "Against Breast Cancer", and also "The UK Sepsis Trust" (see link to other just giving page also). Anything you can donate, however small or large, would be so appreciated to fight these devastating diseases.
Please feel free to join in any way - walk with us some or part of the way, make a cake, meet us at the end and buy some refreshments and/or donate anything you can afford.
Thank you so much
