Pendleside Hospice

100-mile Trailblaster 12 hour Relay Challenge.  22^nd February 7am – 7pm.                                            Towneley Park Burnley.

A nice little warm up to the real event!

To help kick start the Pendleside Hospice charity involvement in the Trailblaster12, Cannonball has gathered together a team of five runners to take on a 100-mile challenge, all in aid of raising money for Pendleside Hospice.

Besides how important we feel it is to highlight the charity aspect of our race, the charity event on 22^nd February will act as a test run for the Trailblaster12 (held on the same course on June 21^st), and will allow us to monitor the experience offered in the race.

Who’s in the Team?

Helen Buchan: Helen is taking place in the challenge in honour of Mike Ennis, who was an inspirational PE teacher from Blessed Trinity School. Mike was a close friend to Helen from the age of 11. Sadly, Mike died of kidney cancer in December and was looked after in the hospice, Helen was particularly moved by how professional and caring the staff were in the hospice and when this opportunity arose to give something back, she took it with both hands!  

Dave Potter: Dave also knew Mike, and was taught by him at school, also jumped at the chance to raise money for the Hospice, knowing the great work they do.

Laura Hesketh: Laura is a Blackburn Harrier from Burnley who has seen the good the hospital serves in the community and also couldn’t wait to help out.

John Lloyd: The Hospice is also very similar to a Hospice where my Grandma Joan Lloyd stayed in, before she passed away. This hospice was called “Dr Kershaws” in Oldham. I saw first hand the uniqueness of the care offered in the hospices.  So naturally for me a similar hospice (Pendleside) were the chosen charity to benefit from the challenge and the actual Trailblaster12 event. 

Nick Gaskell: Nick is well known locally for being the race organiser of the East Lancashire Hospice 10K (another great cause) and also has a business ‘Gaskell Motor Bodies’ in Great Harwood who are very prominent when it comes to raising money for charity.  

Where did the 100-mile mark come from?

The 100-mile mark was the winning distance equivalent at the Conti 12 hour challenge run over a 10k course last year (this a similar event to the Trailblaster). In fact, their course is 10k and actually had less climb so this is slightly more challenging attempt.

We are asking for pledges towards Pendleside Hospice for our attempt at this feat.  It’s all very simple these days by using the just giving page or you can sponsor us even via text with no charge or paperwork.

Challenge details

Our distance would be measured on the amount of 5K laps we can complete on the Trailblaster12 course.

33 laps (5k per lap) = just over 100 miles and 9419ft climbing in 12 hours.
