Story
My Dad - a bubbly, kind, caring guy and my best friend - was sadly diagnosed with Alzheimer's a couple of years ago. Over the years myself and my Mum have had to step up in order to support him as best we can at home.
Dad loved walking, and still does, and so I thought a walk would be fitting. I have endless happy memories of holidays to the Austrian Alps with him over the years, thankfully that he still remembers, and we are able to reminisce on those times together.
I am doing this walk in order to show my support and also to raise awareness for the disease, it's not spoken about enough. Also to prove that no one is alone, support is always there.
Alzheimer's Society are incredible in the support that they give to families who are struggling and need advice and this is my chance to give back to them. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
