Story
Hi — I’m Nat, and I’m taking on a 26-mile trek at Stonehenge to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Society. Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia gradually steal memories and independence, placing enormous emotional and practical strain on those affected and their families. The Alzheimer’s Society provides vital support, funds research, and campaigns for better care.
This cause is very close to my heart. My Grandad Ian — who, with my Nan Haze, set up Atlas over 40 years ago as a practical HGV driving school — is living with Alzheimer’s. The business they founded is still in the family: my husband and I now proudly run it as an online CPC school for lorry drivers. I’m doing this to raise money and awareness for everyone affected and to support the families walking the same difficult road.
I’ve never attempted anything like this before. I’m training every day, doing 4-mile school runs and gradually building up longer sessions each week. It will be a real test (and I might not make it), but I’ll give it everything I have. I’m managing sciatica and a twisted disc in my back, but I’m determined to try — because this challenge is nothing compared with what people with Alzheimer’s and dementia and their families face every day.
