We’re the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and we’re taking a stand against suicide. That means standing against feeling hopeless, standing up to stereotypes, and standing together to show that life is always worth living. Every week, 125 people in the UK take their own lives. CALM exists to change this - by offering life-saving services, provoking national conversation, and bringing people together to reject living miserably.
This walk is close to my heart. I have lost a loved one to suicide and have struggled with my own mental health challenges. I am also a recovering addict with clean time behind me. I know the fears and feelings of losing everything at once and have fought hard to regain my life, including my relationship with my children and my mental health.
I suffer from multiple conditions including PTSD, BPD, anxiety, and hyperthyroidism. I have faced unimaginable pain; I lost two younger children’s father due to an overdose, nearly lost a brother who has faced multiple suicide attempts, and almost lost my teenage daughter due to an overdose as well—she was gone for five minutes but returned thanks to the power of faith.
But not everyone is as fortunate as we are. My journey has been filled with struggles; from self-harm as a teenager to feeling abandoned by mental health services when I needed help the most. It took over four years of fighting just to receive proper diagnosis and medication.
I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others who may be struggling and advocate for better mental health services that take these issues seriously. Please consider supporting me on this journey by donating today—together we can make a difference.
