Fight for Peace uses boxing and martial arts, combined with education and personal development to realise the potential of young people in communities affected by crime and violence. We inspire young people to reach their full potential - to be champions in the ring, and in life.

Story

My story

I've decided to do a tandem skydive on 20 October to support an incredible young person my friend works with called Kido.

Kido (pictured with his Olympics hair-do!) is 20 years old and has lived in London for 6 years.  He is originally from Portugal, where his family still lives, and is living in London independently.  Kido was supported by his older sister when he first arrived in London aged 14. He hasn't had an easy time of it but despite his early struggles he remains positive, determined and very hard working.

Kido has been training in long-jump for 1 year only - however, he has already achieved a personal best (PB) of 7.34 which has placed him as number 4 in the under 23 bracket and 12 in the UK overall.  He is incredibly talented and in order to be considered for support by the NGB (national governing body) he needs to be able to apply for a British Passport (i.e. be able to join Team GB).  This is an expensive process requiring naturalisation (what a term) and despite our best efforts we've hit a wall in so far as raising the dosh is concerned.

In addition to training 4 times a week in long-jump at Newham and Essex Beagles club, Kido is about to start an IT degree.  IT is his plan b should he not get the opportunity to pursue a career in athletics.  Kido is also a member of the Youth Council at the project my friend runs (Fight for Peace) and supports many of his peers through this significant commitment - AND he trains 3 times a week at our Academy in Muay Thai kickboxing.

Kido is a remarkable young man and incredibly motivated and hard working.  His goal is to compete in the Rio Olympics and by supporting me in my jump - you will be providing him with an opportunity to achieve this dream.

Please please please support me and Kido - I'm going to jump out of a plane!!!  And hopefully we'll be able to cheer on Kido in 2016 as part of Team GB!!
