Former Leeds Rhinos scrum-half Rob Burrow was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in December 2019, just two years after ending his playing career by captaining Leeds to a record-extending eighth Super League Grand Final.

Kevin Sinfield (Robs best friend) completed 7 marathons in 7 days to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association charity! There is no doubt that both men are amazing and inspiring role models.

We thought as a school we could join the 7 in 7 challenge and dedicate our fitness term to the Motor Neurone Disease Association
charity!

So this year at the start of every PE lesson we are going to do  our own 7 in 7 challenge in homage to both Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield.

                        7 exercise in 7 minutes

We will pick 7 exercise to be completed in 7 minutes!

                                       7 laps

We will also be training in each PE lesson to complete a 5k run at the end of the 5 week term. Students will do 7 laps covering a distance of 5k.

With Motor Neurone Disease (MND), messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.

MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.

It can affect adults of any age, but is more likely to affect people over 50.

There is a 1 in 300 risk of being diagnosed with MND. In other words, if you have 10,000 people in a stadium, 33 of them will get MND at some point across a normal lifespan.

So please donate to the Motor Neurone Disease Association today.

Your donation will not only help our chosen charity but will really motivate our students to complete the 7 in 7 minutes exercise challenge and the 7 laps challenge, all for the Motor Neurone Disease Association charity.

IT IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!
