Acorns Children's Hospices provide care for babies, children and young people from 0-18 with life limiting or life threatening conditions and support for their families. Between June and October 2012 Acorns provided invaluable care and support to Stuart (VM Regional Director) and his family when their first son Murray was unexpectedly diagnosed with SMA Type 1 at the age of 6 months. Acorns provided a safe and fun environment where the family could enjoy their time together whilst having expert help on hand when needed. The family enjoyed many stays at Acorns and regularly used their hydrotherapy pool which Murray loved. The staff became Murray's friends and always put a big smile on his face. They supported the whole family at this most difficult of times and were always there to provide support and advice. Murray passed away at Acorns with his family by his side on the night before his first birthday. Acorns enabled the family to enjoy every precious moment together and deserve all the support possible to continue providing this opportunity to other families in similar situations.
