Story
I have always thought one day I would run a marathon, but as time has ticked on this has seemed more and more unlikely...with work, family commitments and gammy knees slowing me down...
I’ve also recently had a growing, persistent feeling that I needed to give more.in some way. I feel so blessed in my job, in our warm safe house, with what we have (plenty of yummy food, fun and holidays). It makes me remember that we are the lucky ones born here and that others on our planet are having a truly rough ride.
So, having trained and conquered the hilly Eden Project Half Marathon this October, I’m going to dig deep and go for the big one - the Marathon !!!
I’m running for Christian Aid as they are a truly amazing charity, working globally to eradicate the causes of poverty. They work with people of every faith and none.
3 current projects really speak to me:
- Campaigning for Climate Justice - to stop climate change which will undoubtably impact the world’s poorest people first.
- Emergency Aid - currently to those impacted by the Indonesian Tsunami. They are delivering food, shelter, clean water and sanitation. I know from my time doing disaster relief work that this will be essential to save lives.
- Helping those in poverty find ways to create incomes within their communities. One example is by giving tools, training and support to women in Ethiopia so they could set up solar powered shops; which as well as selling goods, sell solar powered phone charging - essential in remote areas.
Check out the Christian Aid website for more details. www.christianaid.org.uk. As a charity they have been supporting the poorest of our neighbours for over 70 years standing up for dignity, equality and justice.
Together we have the power to transform lives.
Please donate to help this amazing cause and to get me through the training and over the line!
Thank you
