For those of you who know me well, positive mental health is a big thing for me. Having battled anxiety and depression for many years, including one life threatening breakdown, I've now committed myself to speaking out, standing up, and talking about the impact of mental illness.

I'm now Chief Executive of Redcar & Cleveland Mind and am pushing myself through the pain barrier to raise vital funds for our services. A group of us will be walking 23 miles from Whitby to Redcar on August 9th and need your support!

In recent years, our budget has been slashed by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and so we are fighting to survive! But we will, we bloody well will!! The numbers of people seeking our help have gone through the roof this year, with over 300 new requests for help. We are meeting ourselves coming back and need to increase our resources at a time when funding is tight, but the need is growing.

Please dig deep to help us.... mental illness doesn't have the "ah" factor, but it affects more people than cancer or heart disease. It may be you, me, a friend, or family member, but I guarantee you will know someone who suffers, often in silence, from the crippling disability of mental illness.
