A little over a year ago, on 9th March 2021, our dear friend Carlie tragically took his own life. The Carlie Tufnell Charitable Trust has been set up in Carlie’s memory to promote the preservation of mental health; to advance education of people with dyslexia or any other related learning disability; and to provide participation in the arts and cultural heritage.
Starting on the 3rd June 2022, Hugh Buxton, George Bennett Williams, Sam Montgomery and Sebastian Wood walked the final stage of the Via Francigena pilgrimage, from Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta in Siena to St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, to raise funds for Carlie’s Trust. The old Temple Boys completed the 270km route in 9 days, averaging 30km a day.
Route Outline: Siena → Ponte D’Arbia (3rd) → San Quirico → Radicofani → San Lorenzo Nuovo → Montefiascone → Viterbo → Sutri → Formello → Vatican City (11th)
While completing this pilgrimage, we aim to produce visual and written content that commemorates the life of a wonderful friend taken from us too soon and open up conversations on male mental health. The world was graced with the presence of a truly gentle and unbelievably caring soul to whom life was pursued through the tending of others. We know that Carlie’s memory and spirit lives on through this trust, providing a shining opportunity for care and compassion. Any donation would be so very much appreciated - it will go to a fantastic cause.
N.B. On the 24th June, there was an exhibition of Carlie’s photography at Noho Studios, 46 Great Titchfield Street, London, W1W 7QA.
