We as a group of fellow runners & friends from Albertville Harriers are well into our 16 week Marathon training plan & are preparing to tackle 26.2 miles on May 1st 2017 at The Belfast Marathon. We are aiming to raise much needed funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA)  Northern Ireland.  Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. There is currently no cure and it is a terminal illness...My husband (Colm Davis) received the devastating diagnosis of MND in May 2016 and since then we have been guided and supported by MNDA whenever we needed them. They provide an essential and invaluable life line to those who receive a diagnosis and to their family & friends. What can we/you do?  Fundraising is absolutely essential to raise the profile of MND. We need to secure opportunities for research and treatment for this disease & apply rigorous pressure to those who provide funding. Research projects into effective treatments, identifying early disease markers and genetic testing which could eventually lead to a cure require a huge financial input. The MNDA are working hard to secure these things. No matter how small your donation is I can assure you that the money will go directly to those who need it the most...Thankyou for reading "My Story".
